Your primary focus studying Mathematics will be understanding patterns and structure and developing the tools with which to analyse them. You will be able to describe and categorise processes involved in physical or biological phenomena. At St Andrews, mathematics students can specialise in either pure or applied mathematics.
International History of Mathematics Conference 'People, Places, Practices' is the major 5-yearly joint conference of British, Canadian and American Societies for the History of Mathematics which will be held in St Andrews, 6-8 July 2020. Major statistics award for Prof Buckland.St Andrews is a small university and doesn't have things like a law school, engineering school or full medical school and so has a comparatively smaller research grant. That doesn't mean it's a bad university or that it's not doing research - it's still good and very research intensive, it just has less staff and so needs less money than the large Russell Group unis!
